What customers say?

“ Outstanding, the Lobster Ravioli was Maine Lobster and a sauce that was perfection, not to rich, not too strong. The Pork Tomahawk with potatos and balsamic reduction was so delicious - perfectly complementing the chop. ”

“ If you’re in the mood for genuine Italian with a warm, welcoming vibe — think Sunday dinner at a favorite aunt’s house — Paolo delivers in almost every way. From the second you walk in, the staff radiate that “so glad you’re here” energy. They’re not just smiling because they have to — they actually know regulars by name, check in frequently, and manage to be both friendly and professional all night long. Let’s talk food — because that’s the star of the show. The lasagna is one of those comfort-bomb dishes that immediately earns repeat visits. Rich, cheesy, and perfectly sauced — it’s the kind you’ll find yourself comparing every other lasagna to afterward. Reviewers and diners alike seem to love pretty much everything that comes out of the kitchen, and while the menu rotates with seasonal and chef’s specials, the quality stays high across the board. An artichoke appetizer makes a memorable first impression — bright, fresh, and full of classic Italian flavor — and pairs beautifully with one of the restaurant’s well-curated drinks. Speaking of drinks, the bar and wine selection is no afterthought. There’s a nice range of wines by the glass or bottle and some solid cocktails if you want something a bit livelier to start (or extend) your evening. The specials deserve their own shout-out too — they’re not just filler dishes or menu afterthoughts. There’s a sense that the chef takes pride in what’s offered off the regular menu, and whether it’s a fish of the day or a seasonal pasta creation, it’s consistently tasty and thoughtfully put together. ⸻ Dessert — Sweet Endings (and Cannolis Worth Saving Room For) If you’ve still got room after all that pasta and wine, make sure you save space for dessert. Paolo’s dessert lineup hits the classics with house-made touches — and the cannoli are a particular highlight. Their crispy shells are filled with a sweet ricotta mixture that’s delicately flavored (with a hint of amaretto), balancing richness and sweetness without feeling too heavy after a big meal. In addition to the cannoli, the menu also features tiramisu, New York-style cheesecake, chocolate mousse, and a few other fun selections like Italian rainbow cake — so dessert lovers have plenty to choose from and can mix and match. ⸻ Location, Parking & Atmosphere Paolo’s tucked along Amity Road means it’s super convenient if you’re coming from New Haven without having to deal with the downtown traffic or parking hassle. There’s ample parking right in the lot — usually easy to snag a spot — which is such a simple pleasure yet so underrated for dinner spots. The dining room itself feels cozy but not cramped, with a vibe that’s relaxed yet well-dressed enough for date night or a casual dinner with friends. Sure, busier nights can get pretty lively — the place does draw its regulars — but that’s part of the charm. You’ll hear laughter at neighboring tables and see folks lingering over a second glass of wine. ⸻ Overall? Paolo’s feels like the sort of restaurant that’s both special occasion and why didn’t we come here sooner every time you visit. Between the warm service, solid wine list, standout dishes like the lasagna and artichokes, and those sweet cannolis to finish, it’s easy to see why people keep coming back. Special shout out to our server Kylie who took fantastic care of us. ”

“ Wonderful! Friendly attentive service starts you off for a culinary visit to Italy. Warm fresh baked bread is your first taste. The wine list has breadth and depth and all are very reasonably priced. I went for an old stand by, Zuppa de Pesce. If they can do that dish right then let's start a relationship. They did. Presentation lovely, ingredients perfectly cooked. Four shellfish, clams, mussels, scallops, and shrimp with tender calamari rings. Over linguine. But the sauce you ask? Marvelous. Do go! ”

“ Recently enjoyed a fabulous evening at Paolo's with great food, great drinks and wonderful service. They accommodated our rather large party seamlessly and made it a night to remember! Some of our dishes included Chicken Parmesan, Chicken Piccata, Veal Saltimbocca, Gnocchi Bolognese and Orechiette Barese - All spectacular.
